The Artist in Her Own Words (Hi.)
I’ve always loved taking pictures, but my love for portrait photography blossomed when I became a toddler teacher and realized I had a gift for photographing children. What began as a project to make the walls of my classroom brighter, warmer, and more personal quickly turned into a passion as parents began telling me that I’d really captured the essence of their child. Nothing is more precious to me than that! I completely let my guard down with kids, which I think is what enables me to get the best out of them. I’m patient, fun, and willing to be fully ridiculous, and as a result, they get really comfy and begin sharing their biggest laughs, silliest ideas, newest dance moves, and purest smiles. (This works well with adults, too.)
A lot of what I do in a session, no matter who the client, is watch and wait—I’ll orchestrate a bit to get to the best light or location, but there won’t be much posing, and I’ll never make your kid say “cheese.” But there’s usually a fair amount of conversation (and/or singing, playing, miscellaneous goofiness) to help everyone open up. I guess that’s the goal with all of my clients, big or small: to make the experience playful, candid, and fun so that they can relax and be themselves even though there’s a camera pointed at them, which is inherently awkward. Let’s awkward it up! I’m here for you.
Aside from children and family sessions, I also do engagements, headshots, live performers, pets, commercial work, fine art photography, music video production, and the rare (small) wedding. I’m willing to consider anything, though, so try me! The photo below, for example, is part of a BFF shoot I did for a group of friends who’d been in day care together since they were infants and were finally moving on to Kindergarten! A super fun way to commemorate your child’s early relationships and see the world through their eyes. :)
My goal is always to capture authentic moments of emotion, connection, and true personality in a way that is vivid, vibrant, and beautiful.
