There is always a defining moment when you first ‘hear’ an artist. I saw Brandi play a house concert (in her own house) and could hear a pin drop in my breathless head when she sang ‘the sweetest words, they ricochet / but the cruelest thoughts sink down all the way’ and was shocked and saddened to learn I couldn’t buy the album it wasn’t on right then and there. This has been happily remedied: every listen of ‘Bees x3’ opens other trap doors in my head and surprises me yet again. I honestly can’t separate the listening of this with my own experience of lockdown during the pandemic, and that may be because songs this intimate speak directly to the unique quality of loneliness that arose; I found myself sobbing uncontrollably when I finally put the CD in, on a cold April day in 2020, and there couldn’t have been a more suitable conflation of events. What a gorgeous and deceptively effortless-sounding collection of perfect songs.

“The songs on Bees and Bees and Bees are short, soaked with an edge of wry humour, and fully realized … a voice that is unique, well-honed and something of envy as she captures moods perfectly … Brandi Ediss has released a very enjoyable album with plenty of dynamics, energy and excellently crafted songs. This is a talent to watch as she continues forward ... a breath of fresh air.”

“A wonderful assortment of indie pop tunes — sometimes quirky, sometimes fun, and often heartbreaking — but always set to great melodies … Overall, this is an incredible debut from a fantastically gifted singer-songwriter. Indie music is lucky to have her. I must confess that this is one of my personal picks so far of 2020.”

"Full of melodic, heartfelt folk pop songs and well worth a listen … A superb album, full of charm, with memorable songs and quirky lyrics. Highly recommended."

“Brandi Ediss is her own best therapist. As evidenced here on her excellent debut album, Bees and Bees and Bees, the singer-songwriter not only courageously confesses her true feelings and intelligently analyzes such issues dealing with loneliness, isolation, insecurity and romance, but does so with acceptance and a keen sense of humor … Bees and Bees and Bees relays a poetic quality that is evocative and inspiring ... a great introduction to a clever and creative artist.”

Bees and Bees and Bees is [an] amazing debut album from Massachusetts-based singer-songwriter Brandi Ediss. She joins a long line of honest voices like Joni Mitchell that are not afraid to write about both their failures and successes at love.”

“Magical harmonies … Brandi really engages you with her energy and self-deprecating humor … ‘Stupid Boyfriend’ [is] a catchy gem that’s just adorable with its “Ma-Ma-Ma” backing vocal.”
